Purpose of the application
Varkuna Connect is a desktop connection management application prepared for Windows and Linux. It allows users to manage remote connections such as SSH, Telnet, FTP, FTPS and SFTP from their own devices.
Information used
Depending on the user’s preference and application configuration, Varkuna Connect may use or store certain connection information on the device. This information may include:
- Server address, IP address or hostname
- Port number
- Username
- Connection name, label and profile settings defined by the user
- Authentication preferences
- Password, key file path and optional passphrase information depending on the user’s preference
- Local and remote file paths
- Application settings and connection preferences
Local data storage
Connection profiles and application settings may be stored locally on the user’s device. Varkuna Connect does not send saved connection profiles, passwords, the key file path, optional passphrase information or server details to Varkuna servers.
Protection of authentication information in the Windows version
In the Windows version of Varkuna Connect, passwords that the user chooses to save and optional passphrase information entered for SSH key files are encrypted using the Windows Data Protection API (DPAPI).
This protection is tied to the current Windows user account. For this reason, encrypted information normally cannot be directly decrypted by a different Windows user account or another device.
The SSH key file itself is not copied by the application or sent to Varkuna servers. Only the key file path and, if the user chooses, optional passphrase information may be used in the connection profile.
Varkuna Connect does not create a user account managed by the developer. Saved connections and application preferences are kept on the user’s device.
Data transfer
When the user connects to a remote server, the information required for the connection is transmitted only to the remote server selected by the user. This transfer is necessary to establish the SSH, Telnet, FTP, FTPS or SFTP connection initiated by the user.
Varkuna Connect does not operate or control third-party servers that the user connects to. The user is responsible for ensuring that they have authorization to access the systems they connect to.
Data sharing
Varkuna Connect does not sell, rent or share personal information with third parties. Saved connection information is not transferred to a central server owned by the developer.
Third-party servers
The application may communicate with remote servers specified by the user. Unless explicitly stated otherwise, these servers are not operated by Varkuna. Data processing, security and access policies on third-party servers are determined by the relevant server owner or service provider.
Data deletion
Users can delete saved connection profiles and application settings from within the application. If this option is not available in the application, the user can clear local data by removing the application data on the device.
Deleting local data does not delete files, accounts or server-side records on the remote servers that the user connects to.
Security
Varkuna Connect is designed to help manage remote connections securely. However, the user is responsible for passwords, key files, optional passphrases, connection information, remote server access and device security.
Children’s privacy
Varkuna Connect is not intended for children and does not knowingly collect personal information from children.
Policy changes
This Privacy Policy may be updated when necessary. The current version is published on the official Varkuna website.
