Purpose of the application
Varkuna Images is a desktop application for converting and resizing images and editing metadata. Image processing takes place on the user’s computer.
Information used
The app uses the following information to list, preview and process selected images:
- Selected image contents, file names and folder paths
- Image dimensions, file format and file size
- Image metadata such as EXIF, XMP and IPTC, including location, author and copyright fields where present
- Title, description, author and copyright text entered by the user
- Output folder, conversion options, language and theme preferences
Local file processing
Images, previews and converted outputs are processed on the device. Varkuna Images does not send images, file names, paths or metadata text to Varkuna servers for these operations. No application account is created.
Outputs are saved to the folder selected by the user. A temporary name may be used in that folder until the file is complete. The source image is not overwritten; a numbered name is generated if the output name already exists.
Metadata and location information
During conversion, metadata can be preserved, removed or edited according to the selected settings. When GPS preservation is disabled, XMP and IPTC profiles are also removed to avoid retaining location information in those profiles. Selected title, description, author and copyright fields can then be written again.
Removing metadata does not remove addresses, faces or other information visible within the image itself. Review the output and its metadata before sharing.
Copying skipped originals creates an exact copy. Source metadata and GPS information remain in those copies; conversion and metadata-removal settings do not apply.
Saved preferences
Language, theme, output folder, format, quality, resizing and copy options are stored in a local settings file. On Windows, this file is located at %LOCALAPPDATA%\Varkuna\Images\settings.json. The output folder path and file-name suffix are also saved preferences.
The selected source image list and user-entered metadata text are not saved in this settings file. Metadata the user chooses to write to an output may be present in the resulting image file.
Website links
The website link in About opens in the browser when clicked by the user. Visiting a website is subject to that site’s data practices. This visit is separate from local image processing in the app.
Deleting data
After closing the app, you can clear saved preferences by deleting the local settings.json file. This removes the output folder path and other saved options, but does not delete source images or generated outputs.
Removing an image from the queue only removes it from the app’s list. Deleting a source file, a generated output or metadata within a file is a separate file operation.
Policy changes
This policy is updated when the app’s data processing changes. The current text is published on the Varkuna website.
