Purpose of the application
Varkuna Rename is a desktop application for batch file renaming. Rename and copy operations run on the files selected by the user, on their own computer.
Information used
The app uses the following information to list files, preview new names and perform the selected operation:
- Names and paths of selected files and folders
- Naming rules and ordering preferences
- The destination folder selected for copy operations
- Application preferences such as language, theme and folder behavior
Local data storage
Application preferences are stored in %LOCALAPPDATA%\VarkunaRename\settings.json. These may include language, theme, window and folder options, and the last selected destination folder path. A previous settings file may be kept as a .bak backup.
The selected source file list and naming rules are not saved in this settings file. This information is used for file operations and is not sent to Varkuna servers.
File processing
Renaming changes the file name in its current location. Copying creates a copy with a new name at the selected destination. The app does not upload your files to a server to perform these operations.
Version checks and network access
When the user starts a check in About / Updates, the app retrieves version information over HTTPS from varkuna.com/varkuna-rename-update.properties. File contents, names and paths are not included in this request.
Technical connection information, such as the IP address, reaches the web server during this request. The check does not download an installer or install an update itself. Microsoft Store handles installation and updates of the Store edition.
Accounts and third-party services
No Varkuna account is created to use Varkuna Rename. Acquisition and updates through Microsoft Store are governed by Microsoft’s own terms and privacy practices.
Deleting local data
After closing the app, you can clear saved preferences by deleting settings.json and any .bak backup. This also removes the remembered destination folder path.
Deleting preferences does not restore previous file names or remove copies created by the app. File operations and application settings are separate.
Policy changes
This policy is updated when the app’s data processing changes. The current text is published on the Varkuna website.
